The Plan
This expansion will add 10,750 square feet to our current 17,750 square foot building at 59 Mill Street, with a two-story addition to the ground floor and a fourth floor added to the existent three-story structure.
With the added space, we'll serve 2,500 more women and children each year and enhance programs and services (as described below).
We'll double the size of the childcare room to double the number of infants nurtured and allow more mothers to attend classes (since they'll have the childcare they need). We'll add a storefront boutique where women can get on-the-job training. We'll expand the lobby, so women won't have to wait outside for services.
We'll add a large community room for job fairs, college fairs, children's physical fitness, and large group gatherings. We'll add a workshop space (for workshops such as financial literacy and domestic violence prevention), a resource room, and we'll improve the toddler room.
We'll create a rooftop garden for outdoor classes and environmental education activities. A large volunteer hub will allow us to hold volunteer trainings and meetings.
We'll add classrooms to nearly double the number of children in our After-School Academy (from 124 to 220). With more classroom space, we'll increase the number of English as a Second Language students. We'll gain office space for needed additional social workers.
