Important Information

Please click below to download and complete one of the following volunteer applications to bring with you on your first visit to Oasis.

All volunteers over 16 must complete a Child Abuse Record Information (CARI) form to process a background check with the New Jersey Department of Children and Families. All forms must be accompanied by $10 cash or check to Oasis to cover the cost of the state processing fee.

Parking is always a challenge in our neighborhood. We encourage parking in front of our building or on the red brick driveway immediately to the left of our building. Click here for some options we put together for our volunteers that detail parking options in the surrounding area in case spots at our building are unavailable!

Adult Education Volunteers

We work with over 250 adult education students each day at Oasis.  Our full time teachers can't do it alone!  You can serve as a volunteer in the classroom in many different ways.

  • Teach a subject (Math, Reading, Writing, Science, Social Studies) to an entire class or provide one-on-one tutoring in one of our high school equivalency classes on a weekly or biweekly basis.
  • Serve as a one-on-one tutor in our new literacy/numeracy class (elementary level support).
  • Once a month, speak conversational English in one of our ESL classes or at our "English Cafe".
  • Volunteer in one of our computer classes, working with small groups of students as they learn Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Mentor our Oasis Works students on Fridays as they improve their resumes, job hunting, and interview skills.

Timeframe: varied and flexible

Email our Volunteer Coordinator Signe Howard for more details.

Nurturing Center and Children's Center

Want to spend some of your time holding babies, playing with blocks, singing songs and smiling more than you could imagine?  Then join the team of Nurturing Center and Children's Center volunteers who care for the children of our adult education students while mom is in class.

We encourage weekly or biweekly commitments so the children enjoy stability and feel comfortable with the volunteers.

Timeframe: 9am-12noon or 12:30pm-3pm.

Email our Volunteer Coordinator Signe Howard for more details.

Food Pantry and

clothing room

Oasis receives many donations of food, clothing, and other items that we distribute to the community through our Social Services department.

We can use regular help in our food pantry and clothing room, organizing donations so they can be distributed quickly and with dignity to our students and clients.

Timeframe: varied and flexible

Email our Volunteer Coordinator Signe Howard for more details.

Want to run a food or clothing drive?  You can find more info on the Food-Clothing-Diaper page.
