About Oasis
Oasis is a nonprofit organization helping women and children rise out of poverty. Our team works from a four-story building in Paterson, New Jersey, serving families in the greater Paterson area.
Oasis provides food, clothing, and counseling to help women and children meet their basic needs. We provide educational classes for women and academic after-school programs for children to help them thrive.
We address the inequalities facing women and children who live in poverty.
For over 27 years, we’ve been committed to the idea that every woman and child deserves the opportunity for a brighter future.
The Oasis Mission
The mission of Oasis is to change the lives of women and children by breaking the cycle of poverty through compassionate programs designed to feed, clothe, educate, and empower women and children in need.
Our History
Oasis was founded in 1997 by two women who recognized a need in Paterson: Women with children were excluded from many soup kitchens for safety reasons.
In 1997, backed by friends and supporters, Ann Wagner and Christine DeVita Breit began serving hot meals to women with children in a Paterson church hall. Today, Oasis has emerged as a leading social service agency in the city, serving some 1,000 women and children daily with basic needs services and educational programs.
Oasis changes lives, one woman and child at a time.
